These are Pictish carved stones dating from around 1300-1500 years ago.
This was a time when society was changing. Pictavia was transforming from a belief system based on a relationship and understanding of nature as being all powerful to embracing the coming of Christianity.
These stones reflect that transition.
Some have only older symbols whereas some have a 'modern' celtic Cross on one side.
Over the next couple of weeks I'll share some thoughts on these images and how they relate to our understandings of stories and folklore.
